PRAYER REQUESTS 
Prayer for the New School Year - God of wisdom and might, we praise you for the wonder of our being, for mind, body, and spirit. Be with our children as they begin a new school year. Bless them and their teachers and staff. Give them the strength and grace as their bodies grow; wisdom a:nd knowledge to their minds as they search for understanding; and peace and zeal to their hearts. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

SCHOOL NEWS 

Are You Receiving ClassTag Notifications?
Parents, we have a lot of events and reminders going out already. Please make sure you sign up for ClassTag for ALL of your students using the new code(s) sent home this school year. At least one parent must sign up using either an email or phone number they check frequently. We strongly encourage all parents to sign up so you don't miss announcements. If you did not receive a printout with ClassTag instructions, contact your child's teacher. This is our primary method of communication between school and parent.

Spirit Day Dress Guidelines 
This Friday, August 16  our first Spirit Day of the school year! Students may wear either their normal school uniform or a St. Eugene spirit shirt (any year, any sport, any club, etc) along with jeans or uniform bottoms. Girls may also opt to wear their spirit shirt with uniform skirt, uniform skort, or uniform jumper.

Curriculum Nights Next Week
We will have two separate Curriculum Nights next week. Middle School parents will attend Tuesday, Aug. 20th at 6pm. Preschool-5th grade parents will attend Thursday, Aug. 22nd at 6pm. We will have 2 breakout sessions on Aug. 22nd so parents with more than one child can attend grade level specific meetings. Curriculum Night is your opportunity to find out about what your child will be learning this year. This is a parent-only meeting. Childcare will not be provided.

Don't Forget Two O'clock Tuesdays!
Make sure you set a reminder for yourself that every Tuesday is 2pm dismissal for all grade levels. See you at carpool!

Back to School Mass Celebration
All St. Eugene families are invited to join us at 9:30 am Mass on August 18th for Back to School Sunday! St. Eugene students should wear their school uniforms, and they will get to process out of Mass with Father Wolf. Join us after Mass in Ross Hall for doughnuts and fellowship!

There’s still time to get your wristbands for the Eagle Run!
For Kids:
$18 burger meal wristband (games included)
$15 hot dog meal wristband (games included)
$10 wristband (games included, no meal)

For Adults:
$8 hamburger meal only
$5 hot dog meal only

Turning traditional lunchtime upside down - WHY?
“When students go to recess before lunch they do not rush through lunch and tend to eat a more well-­balanced meal including more foods containing vitamins, such as milk, vegetables, and fruits” (The National Food Service Management Institute). 

When recess is before lunch, research shows that students:

• waste less food (as much as 27% to 40%)
• consume more calcium and protein (as much as 35%) 
• have decreased number of nurse/office visits for headaches and stomachaches after recess 
• are calmer and ready to get to work immediately instead of needing cool-­down time
• have an increase in classroom time on-­task 
• have decreased discipline referrals (from the classroom and lunch period)
• return to the classroom with their bodies and minds fueled and ready to learn

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

PTO Outreach/Fundraising Officer
Are you looking to get more involved?? We are looking for a Community Outreach/Fundraising officer for the 2019-2020 PTO Board. The Community Outreach/Fundraising Chairperson overseas, organizes, and reports on fundraising opportunities for the school such as, but not limited to, restaurant night and Box Tops for Education. Library Volunteers Needed
If you are looking for a regular volunteer opportunity for Time and Talent, consider becoming a CSSE library volunteer! Mrs. Hattaway always needs help shelving, reading to kids, checking in and out, and assisting the kids with finding a book. It's a great way to get to know the students! Must be current with Safe Environment.
Library volunteer training will be in the library Tuesday, August 20th 8:15am-9:15am
All volunteers must attend or make other arrangements with Mrs. Hattaway at  [email protected].
There are also occasional organizational and artistic projects if that's more your speed.

CLUBS AND ATHLETICS

Register for CSSE Volleyball and Soccer!
Register now for Fall CGSAA sports at steugeneschool.org/athletics. Forms are located under "Links." Please complete registration by August 19th. Fees can be turned in to the school office.


CCYO Junior High Cross Country
Boys and girls in grades 6-7-8 are invited to take part in the CCYO Cross Country program.
For about 30 years, this program has introduced Catholic grade school students to the great sport of cross country.
Coaches this season: Owen Canfield IV, Kelley Hughes, Dean Fitzpatrick, and McKenzie Smith were high school cross country runners and are passionate about getting youth involved.
We’ll practice at 6:00 p.m. each Monday and Thursday at Lake Hefner, and compete in 4 Saturday meets from Mon 8/19 through Sat 9/28. 
Cost is $50 per child, which covers all meet fees and a running jersey that you can keep.
Our first practice is 6:00 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Lake Hefner. Exit Lake Hefner Parkway at Britton Road, follow the access road south past the boat club and restaurants. We’ll meet at the first lot just past the right (west bound) turn and small stop sign for the bike/run trail.
Students need to wear active clothing, new running shoes, a digital wrist watch, and bring a water bottle.
Parents come Monday, 8/19/19 at 6:00PM and plan to spend a few minutes hearing the coaches explain the season.  Please bring your check for $50 and hand it to one of the coaches or administrators at the end of the short (15min ish) parent meeting.
