• ## 6th Grade Math Unit Goals

Students will be able to:

• Perform operations with decimals
• Perform operations with Fractions and Integers (number line, coordinate plane)
• Apply ratio concepts to solve real world problems
• Apply properties of operations to write and simplify algebraic expressions
• Solve one variable equations and inequalities using algebraic process
• Solve Real world mathematical problems involving perimeter, area, surface area, and volume (2-D:square, rectangle, triangle & parallelogram; 3D: cube & rectangular prism)
• Create a display of statistical data in appropriate format in order to draw conclusions.
• Calculate measures of central tendency & variation
• ## 7th Grade Unit Goals

Students will be able to:

• Apply all operations using integers
• Apply all operations and properties to problems using rational numbers
• Solve real world mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations
• Solve inequalities and graph results on a number line
• Analyze real world and mathematical problems using ratios, rates, and proportions
• Solve real world and mathematical problems using angles, area, perimeter, and circumference of two-dimensional figures (regular & complex)
• Solve real world and mathematical problems involving surface area and colume of three-dimensional figures (prisms, cones & spheres)
• Apply the principles of probability to real-world applications
• Apply information to create and to interpret complex graphs and charts
• ## 7th/8th Grade Pre-Algebra Unit Goals

Students will be able to:

• Organize rational and irrational numbers in different representations.
• Solve multi-step equations and inequalities with integers.
• Manipulate fractions, decimals, and percents, including  equations of each.
• Graph linear equations and inequalitites.
• Generate linear equations, inequalities and graphs of real world problems.
• Interpret by modeling the correlation between two variable sets of data.
• Apply principals of congruence and similarity to transformations and transversals, using models.
• Apply appropriate formulas and tools to calculate perimeter, area of 2-D figures, surface area, volume of 3-D figures, and to apply the Pythagorean Theorem.
• ## 8th Grade Algebra Unit Goals

Students will be able to:

• Apply appropriate mathematical language, algebraic properties, and order of operations to simplify and evaluate expressions
• Analyze conceptually and mathematically the general characteristics of functions and their applications to linear equations and inequalities.
• Graphically model linear equations
• Solve systems of linear equations and inequalities
• Simplify expressions involving exponents and polynomials
• Factor polynomial expressions (with GCF, grouping, trinomials with leading ones and non-leading ones, and binomials including difference of squares, sum of cubes, and difference of cubes).
• Apply appropriate techniques to simplify and solve rational expressions, and equations.
• Apply appropriate techniques to manipulate radicals and compute expressions with rational and negative exponents.
• Solve quadratic equations by factoring, graphing, completing the square & applying the quadratic formula.
